Job Summary:
The LifeFlight Ground Transport Paramedic independently works off assessment skills to activate patient care protocols to deliver patient care within the Tennessee paramedic scope of practice within the defined Vanderbilt paramedic scope of practice. Responsible for triage care in the field as well as the Emergency Department. Responsible for effective communication to ensure safe and quality patient care in paramedic team, transport and handover. Completes required paperwork and documents appropriately and completely. Drives an emergency or non-emergency vehicle in the appropriate mode. Checks, restocks, inventories and cleans any vehicle. Communicates with professional medical personnel and treatment facilities to obtain instructions regarding further treatment and/or to arrange reception of patients to the appropriate center. Completes patient care forms, insurance forms, evaluation forms, and all other forms in a competent and timely fashion.
Key Responsibilities:
- Actively participates with other members of the healthcare team to provide direct patient care.
- Transports patients via various modes of transportation while providing quality ALS and Critical Care management to all ages.
- Responds to emergency requests within Vanderbilt, Vanderbilt sponsored or other contracted events.
- Utilizes the problem solving model to independent resolve patient problems and follow through with HCT to implement solutions.
- Identifies patient and unit problems and finds solutions to resolve problems and follows through to implement solutions.
- Effectively communicates patient handover to the health care team.

Department/Unit Summary
LifeFlight Ground EMS started in the fall of 2011, and works with the Discharge Transport office to transport patients from Vanderbilt University Medical Center to other facilities. We offer BLS (basic life support) and ALS (advanced life support) ambulance transport, as well as a non-medical wheel chair van. Our non-emergency discharge transport service can also transport those patients on a ventilator that have been discharged from the hospital for a skilled nursing facility. With the additional two ground specialized ambulances, Vanderbilt LifeFlight has a fleet of 23 transport modes - 13 ground ambulances, nine helicopters and one airplane.
- The ground EMS division is responsible for transporting patients that have been discharged from Vanderbilt University Medical Center to either another facility or home.
- The ground division is responsible for making more than 3,000 transports a year.

- Full Time; Three 12-hour rotating days/nights shifts per week

Demonstrates enough acumen to recognize problems and to contact the patient's primary care provider.
