This position is located in the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), Food and Drug Administration (FDA), Center for Tobacco Products (CTP), Office of Health Communication and Education (OHCE), Division of Regulatory Communications (DRC) which leads and directs the execution of strategies for Center messaging targeted to the general public and stakeholders, and leads the development, clearance, and execution of messages and the rollout/outreach plans for regulatory communication issues.
Duties
Provide Spanish translation services on key stakeholder tobacco-use prevention and public education communication materials.
Coordinate and conduct the development and implementation of tobacco-use prevention public education programs, projects, and strategies for the general public and other audiences across a variety of platforms.
Contribute to the efficient and effective management of state, regional, or national tobacco-use prevention projects and campaigns.
Plan and participate in stakeholder and interagency meetings and special events.

Qualifications
The position of Health Communications Specialist falls under the 1001 occupational series. To qualify for this position at grade GS-13, you must meet all requirements by 11:59 pm EST on 03/16/2023.

The selective placement factor for this position is: Fluency in the Spanish language. You must be able to communicate in Spanish orally and in writing. Minimum Qualifications: Specialized experience is experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled. The specialized experience must demonstrate one year of full-time work experience , or the equivalent if part-time (for example, an employee working 20 hours per week for a 12-month period should be credited with 6 months of experience.) Experience may have been obtained in either the federal service or its equivalent with state or local government, the private sector, or nongovernmental organizations.
GS-13: You must have 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-12, in the Federal service, which includes: developing stakeholder alliances for tobacco-use and/or public health prevention programs; assisting and liaising with others in the development of public health and/or tobacco-use prevention related education collateral; translating tobacco-use and/or public health prevention related marketing materials from English to Spanish.
The FDA's Center for Tobacco Products (CTP) oversees the implementation of the Family Smoking Prevention and Tobacco Control Act. Some of the Agency’s responsibilities under the law include setting performance standards, reviewing premarket applications for new and modified risk tobacco products, requiring new warning labels, and establishing and enforcing advertising and promotion restrictions.
