Offering an exceptional leadership opportunity, Carilion Clinic (CC) and the Department of Surgery, Section of Otolaryngology in Roanoke, Virginia are searching for a Chief of the Section to lead a team of nine Otolaryngologists, five Advanced Clinical Practitioner’s, five Audiologists and one audiology assistant in a clinic-based, academic program with remarkable opportunities in teaching, research, and clinical otolaryngology. The Chief will direct the clinical, educational, and research activities for the Section, as well as the planning and building of a future Otolaryngology Residency Program. Based in the Level One 763-bed Trauma and Academic Center, Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital, our program provides comprehensive otolaryngology coverage to over one million people in a large, rural, multi-state area. Otolaryngology services are also provided in several other Carilion hospitals, including Carilion New River Valley Medical Center, Carilion Giles Community Hospital, and Carilion Franklin Memorial Hospital. The section also operates clinics in three satellite locations in the region, with plans to open two additional sites within the next year. Clinical pathology is exceptionally broad, and our otolaryngologists perform the full breadth of procedures of all levels of complexity.

We currently provide clinical training for senior residents from the otolaryngology residency at the Naval Medical Center Portsmouth with the goal to establish our own residency program. The CC-VTC system stands on the brink of unprecedented expansion and opportunity through the burgeoning relationship with Virginia Tech.
We are looking for a dynamic, growth-focused Otolaryngology leader of excellent clinical experience, proven academic interest, and great vision and creativity. The successful candidate will combine patient care, teaching of medical students and residents, and faculty development in the setting of a dynamic, academic multi-specialty group practice providing comprehensive, multi-disciplinary care for adults and children. There are few positions in the country that can boast such wonderful potential. The position requires an academic appointment at VTCSOM.
Other requirements include:
MD/DO, Board Certification in Otolaryngology, Head and Neck Surgery
At least 5 years of progressive otolaryngology leadership in an academic setting with an academic rank of at least Associate Professor
Evidence of strong organizational, communication and leadership skills
Physician leadership experience with emphasis on team-building; development of integrated collaborative models of care, education, and research; and managing people and programs.
Experience with graduate medical education is preferred
