This position is more than 75% pediatrics and is focused on general pediatrics. We are seeking an entry level or experienced Pediatric Orthopaedic Surgeon.
Mission or Goal of Unit
Our vision is to be the premier orthopaedic provider in the central Virginia region. Our mission is to provide superb clinical care to our patients, educate the next generation of orthopaedic surgeons and expand the orthopaedic knowledge base through basic, clinical and translational research utilizing excellent, evidence-based, efficient patient care along with thorough and responsive consultation in pediatric orthopaedic services for orthopaedic patients across the health system.
Chief Purpose of this Position in Support of Above Mission or Goal
We are seeking candidates to directly care for patients in the pediatric orthopaedic service line. The candidate will improve quality and efficiency of orthopaedic services at VCU Health System and provide prompt high-quality pediatric orthopaedic care. The incumbent will assist and develop orthopaedic faculty with interest in new technologies, clinical research and teaching along with mentoring residents and fellows and working within the hospital system and with other departments to provide multidisciplinary care for pediatric orthopaedic patients.
Position Responsibilities
1. Teaching
The candidate will staff inpatient services with learners including medical students, interns and residents; use contemporary adult learning methods to promote evidence-based practice; demonstrate effective teaching skills and continually develop as a teacher for learners at all levels; complete required evaluations of learners in a timely manner.
2. Research
The candidate will participate in clinical and administrative research, according to skills, interest and funding; research opportunities may include performance improvement initiatives or formal extramurally funded investigations; participation may be as principal investigator or co-investigator; maintain a level of scholarship in Orthopaedic Surgery consistent with academic rank.
3. Service
The candidate will work with institutional staff and administration to attain the strategic objectives of VCU Health System, including patient safety, patient and other customer satisfaction, maintenance and enhancement of public perception, and fiscal health.
4. Clinical
The candidate will admit and manage patients who present through the pediatric orthopaedic service, co-management of patients on other services, triage medicine patient requiring admission in the Emergency Department and non-medical services and non-VCU hospitals; join colleagues in assuring coverage 24-hours a day, every day of the year; comply in a timely manner with all institutional policies for professional work including credentialing, documentation, billing; work effectively with other members of the extended inter-professional team.
5. Other
The candidate will ensure compliance with all regulatory and regulatory reimbursement requirement.
Required
- M.D. degree and ABOS certification/eligibility in Orthopaedic Surgery. - Must have successfully completed an accredited fellowship program in Pediatric Orthopaedic Surgery. - Record of scholarly publication in peer review journals. - Direct experience managing complex pediatric orthopaedic cases, competence in standard inpatient procedures. - A solid understanding of the pediatric orthopaedic role and function and interest in teaching and growth in an academic setting. - Demonstrated ability to work as a member of a team, providing effective communication, both verbal and written. - Demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff and student environment or commitment to do so as a faculty member at Virginia Commonwealth University.
